Working closely with solar engineers from MLT inverters (now Apex). I helped develop a Lithium-Ion battery enclosure including all the internal busbars, brackets and fittings. Ready for production.

Industrial Design

Batteries a freaking heavy! Working closely with the engineering team the solution had to be super sturdy, and practical for assembly and functionality. We balanced strength with ease of assembly and the amount of parts to make sure we had a strong design, without unnecessary bulk.

Sheet Metal Design

Everything from the outside shell to the internal Copper busbars were sheet metal. So I made sure the design could be manufactured, focusing on a consistent bend radii, easy bends, and the right material thicknesses for specific parts.

Designed for Manufacture

From the start, I designed the enclosure to be production friendly. I always minimize complex features and prioritise simplicity. When I can I use as few SKU's of fasteners, parts and always make sure any mirror parts are the same.

BOM and Manufacture Data Pack

Lastly. Got to make sure we have a manufacture pack! A Bill of Materials (BOM) and drawings for all the custom parts meant our trusty manufacturer could do the thing they do best.
